In some
women, the normal broadening of the hip is overly accentuated by excess
fat in the hips. Overly broad hips can make finding well-fitting clothes
particularly difficult. People that store fat primarily in their hips
(mostly women) are called "pears."
Fat settles
differently on men and women. Men usually tend to store fat around their
bellies whereas women store fat on their hips and thighs. Research on
obesity indicates that fat deposit on the hips and thighs is more difficult
to lose. Women's hormones favor depositing fat in that region and not
removing it from there except during breast feeding which burns approximately
800 calories a day.
Fat in
the hips, waist, and thighs can be one of the most difficult problems
to solve, since these areas often do not respond well to diet and exercise.
Fat in the females hip and thigh areas has a high level of fat-storing
enzymes, enabling her to store fat during pregnancy.
Enlarged
hips due to excess fat can be brought into much better proportion by liposuction
of the hip area.
Liposuction
of the hips is generally successful in creating a more contoured figure.
This type of liposuction is usually performed on female hips as men are
not as susceptible to retaining fat deposits in this area. Patients who
undergo liposuction to improve the appearance of the hips may require
additional procedures to attain the desired contour. The procedure is
usually performed under general anesthesia.
The tumescent
technique for liposuction is still the most commonly used method for achieving
desired results in contouring areas such as the waist, hips, thighs and
buttocks. This technique works by injecting controlled amounts of a special
fluid under the skin. This fluid causes the fat to swell such that it
is easier to remove. This fluid also numbs and constricts blood flow to
the area to reduce blood loss. Because there is so little blood loss,
there is minimal bruising.
There are
many plastic surgeons in the Newport Beach area that offer liposuction
surgery that can be helpful in removing unwanted fat from the hips.
Newport
Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Douglas Hendricks
offers liposuction & cosmetic surgery for patients in Newport Beach
& all of Orange County. Dr. Hendricks has helped hundreds of patients
achieve the look they desire creating a slimmer body contour that helps
people feel more confident and comfortable.

Beach. Dr. Dubrow has appeared on Fox Tv's "The Swan" &
"Newport Beach 714" magazine. With years of experience, Newport
Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Dubrow regularly performs power-assisted liposuction
(PAL) with the tumescent technique for optimal results.
Dr.
Mark Krugman
also offers liposuction in the Newport Beach area. Dr. Krugman performs
only tumescent liposuction on his patients and utilizes small sized cannulas
(suction tubes) or even smaller syringes for more precise fat extraction
and minimal bruising and swelling. During the procedure, Dr. Krugman flushes
the fatty area with fluid that loosens and helps dissolve fatty tissue
before removing it with the cannula or syringe. This also helps minimize
inflammation after the procedure.
