A number
of people are troubled by facial veins, consisting typically of enlarged
& broken veins on the cheeks and the nose. Many people, especially
fair-skinned people in sunny climates (like Southern California), will
develop areas of the face as they age where superficial veins and capillaries
in the skin become enlarged and highly visible. Because of their typically
irregular and spidery appearance, these superficial cutaneous vessels
are commonly referred to as 'spider veins'.
Spider
veins are flat veins that appear on the skin's surface. They are
usually red, blue or purple in color and appear on the thighs, calves
and ankles. While spider veins are cosmetically unappealing, they can
be painful as well. Cramping, burning, itching and swelling are all symptoms
associated with these troublesome veins. The key factors that contribute
to circulatory problems are poor nutrition, excessive weight, a sedentary
lifestyle, or prolonged standing.
Facial
Spider Veins,
or Telangiectasia, are not truly "veins" but rather capillaries
or small arteries which have become dilatated. Facial veins are usually
seen in people with fair skin, and are often associated with chronic sun
exposure, rosacea, overuse of cortisone creams and certain autoimmune
diseases.
The cause
of spider veins is not completely understood, and appears to be multi-factorial.
Contributing factors may be a genetic predisposition, the chronic use
of topical steroid agents, and solar damage to the facial skin that gradually
builds up over many years.
Both types
of skin blemishes are cosmetically unappealing and many people activily
visit doctors & dermatologists to help solve the problem. Many medical
clinics, med spas, and plastic surgeons in the Newport Beach area are
turning to lasers to treat both spider veins & facial veins.
California
Mesotherapy & Laser Institute

with the CoolGlide XEO laser. The CoolGlide laser has received the Editors

vascular conditions including facial telangiectasia, spider veins and
reticular leg veins. The variable spot size selection with the laser makes
treatment fast with minimal discomfort.
The

treatments of leg veins & spider veins.
Dr.
Sanjay Grover is a practicing physician in the Newport
Beach area that also offers laser spider vein treatments. Dr. Grover is
a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon and is a Diplomate of the American Board

both personalized attention and surgical excellence. He is well-versed

Finally, the Pacifica
Cosmetic Surgery Center offers laser spider vein removal.
Newport Beach plastic surgeon Dr Douglas Hendricks offers laser treatments
for Newport Beach & all of Orange County. Before treatment, spider
veins are quite noticeable, contrasting sharply with the surrounding skin.
Lasers that target the blood vessel wall without damaging the overlying
skin are used to cause the small thread-like veins to clot. After the
treatment, the body slowly dissolves the veins.
