A
number of people are troubled by facial veins, consisting typically of enlarged
& broken veins on the cheeks and the nose. Many people, especially fair-skinned
people in sunny climates (like Southern California & South Florida), will
develop areas of the face as they age where superficial veins and capillaries
in the skin become enlarged and highly visible. Because of their typically irregular
and spidery appearance, these superficial cutaneous vessels are commonly referred
to as 'spider veins'.
Facial
Spider Veins, or Telangiectasia, are not truly "veins" but rather capillaries
or small arteries which have become dilatated. Facial veins are usually seen in
people with fair skin, and are often associated with chronic sun exposure, rosacea,
overuse of cortisone creams and certain autoimmune diseases.
The
cause of spider veins is not completely understood, and appears to be multi-factorial.
Contributing factors may be a genetic predisposition, the chronic use of topical
steroid agents, and solar damage to the facial skin that gradually builds up over
many years.
The
Candela V-beam laser is excellent for targeting fine superficial spider
veins especially on the face. With the VBeam laser for facial veins, one treatment
may be sufficient for clearance but a second visit is recommended for the best
results. These treatments occur on an average of every six to twelve weeks.
V-Beam's
Ultra-Long pulse duration delivers laser energy to targeted blood vessels over
a longer period of time, resulting in a gentle heating effect and uniform spider
vein removal. Prior to each laser pulse, V-Beam's Dynamic Cooling Device applies
a soothing protective spray to the targeted skin area ensuring the greatest comfort
and most effective treatment, with minimal or no bruising of the skin. The spider
veins are effectively removed in one or two brief sessions without disturbing
the overlying skin. There is no need for recovery time. Most people are able to
return to work or resume their usual activities immediately following the treatment.
The
V-Beam laser can clear up redness, birthmarks, lesions and spotting on the face
& neck and has been known to lessen symptoms of rosacea.
Another
common laser spider vein treatments is the CoolGlide XEO laser. The CoolGlide
laser has received the Editors Choice Award for Most Diverse Aesthetic Laser from
Aesthetic Trends & Technologies magazine. The Coolglide treats a wide range
of aesthetic vascular conditions including facial telangiectasia, spider veins
and reticular leg veins. The variable spot size selection with the laser makes
treatment fast with minimal discomfort. The CoolGlide system's long pulse Nd:YAG
laser light is delivered through an actively-cooled handpiece, which glides comfortably
across the skin, removing unsightly spider veins. This non-surgical treatment
requires no painful injections or incisions.
